This month’s model feature is all about Angel! Angel has been modeling for us since Summer of 2014 – when she did a jewelry shoot – since then she has been in a Spring shoot and show, Fall shoot and show, Summer shoot, Winter/Holiday shoot and helps with our Twitter account!

1. Aside from occasionally modeling for SmartGlamour – what do you do?
I’ve been in the fashion industry for 5 years – first starting as a plus model and now working as a model/talent manager at a modeling agency in NYC.
2. How did you get involved with the brand?
I believe I started following SmartGlamour through the #bodypositive hashtag. I then submitted to model for a small jewelry shoot and have since also done a couple of lookbooks, a NYFW show, and also help out with the Twitter page – it’s so fun being able to spread SmartGlamour’s message in different ways!
3. You’ve modeled for us multiple times – what makes you continue to come back?
I love Smart Glamour. Not only are the clothes fabulous and the message powerful – but the shoots and events are a blast! It’s exciting to be around likeminded individuals and be apart of such a healthy, happy community. I’ve loved seeing this brand grow throughout the years (Teen Vogue – are you kidding me?!) and am so excited to see what’s to come.
4. What does body positivity mean to you?
Body positivity is something that is somewhat new to me – growing up in a small town where everyone looked the same, dressed the same, had the same beauty ideals, etc, really took a toll on my self image. It’s so important to know that there’s not only beauty in variety, but importance in knowing you’re worthy regardless of the differences.
It goes beyond shapes and sizes. It’s knowing that there’s more that matters than the amount of space I take up. I still struggle with this daily – being hyperaware of my side roll or my double chin – but being able to celebrate the things I love about me (inside + out), and constantly learning to love more, is what body positivity means to me.
5. If there is a message you could put across to other people through your modeling photos – what would that be?
Do you. Wear what you want and say what you feel because you’re beautiful and worthy of happiness regardless of the impossible standards that surround us daily. Smile. Give. Love. Know you’re not alone on this journey.
6. What is your advice to other people who would like to give modeling a try?
As corny as this may sound – follow your dreams. Being in front of the camera can be a scary place – but if it fuels your fire, by all means, give it your best shot. You never know who you will be inspiring.
