Having just celebrated our eighth year anniversary, SmartGlamour has been through a lot of iterations. We’ve built a following on Instagram, launched (and relaunched) our blog, and just last week put out a Spring 2022 Collection. None of this would be possible without founder, Mallorie or her tight band of workers.

This month we’re celebrating a model who’s been with SmartGlamour since the start of the pandemic and brought light during that stressful time for the world.

A jack-of-all-trades as a makeup artist, burlesque performer, cosplayer, and professional pin-up model, this model conquers whatever she set her mind to.

Our March model of the month is Susie!

1. Aside from occasionally modeling for SmartGlamour – what do you do?

Aside from occasionally modeling for SmartGlamour, I’m a professional makeup artist, pin-up model, burlesque newbie and occasional cosplay girl!

2. How did you get involved with the brand?

Back in the before times (literally right before the pandemic), I saw a post on the SmartGlamour IG page announcing a model call for the new collection and runway show that was just on the horizon. I had been focused solely on pin-up modeling at that point and was interested in dipping my toe into more commercial modeling. I went to the casting call and met Mallorie and Katie (who were both super chill and fabulous), and the rest is pretty much SG history! And it all started by taking a chance and responding to that post.

3. You’ve modeled for us multiple times – what makes you continue to come back?

At each shoot there is always such a welcoming atmosphere. Even at my 1st SG shoot I never felt like I wasn’t welcome. It’s always so fun and it’s wonderful to see so many different body types being celebrated.
It’s truly a community.

4. What does body liberation mean to you?

Body liberation means the freedom to live in your body as you see fit. You want to change your body? That’s cool. You don’t want to change your body? That’s cool too! You like to wear makeup? Yassss! You don’t like makeup? WERK! Everyone deserves to feel good about the way they chose to package themselves to the world.

5. If there is a message you could put across to women, femmes, and non binary folks through your modeling photos – what would that be?

Life is beautiful and fun. Savor it and embrace it. Be silly, be sexy. Unapologetically be yourself, years from now you’ll be so happy that you did!

6. What is your advice to people who would like to give modeling a try?

Go for it! If it’s something that you’ve been curious about, give it a try. If you don’t land the first opportunity that you go for, that’s OK. Be gentle with yourself and keep pushing, the right fit will come along for you! Most importantly, just have fun!
