Reach out with Questions! Hi all! The SmartGlamour shop is temporarily closed while we catch up on the lovely but large amount of orders we have received in the past few months. We will then be taking a mini-break to relax and recalibrate. Stay tuned to our social media and newsletter for updates. We thank you for your patience, love, and support of our small, ethical, inclusive business. More info in our How to Order and FAQ pages and on Instagram. Please feel free to reach out with any questions!

Fabric Studies + a Virtual Field Trip to NYCs Garment District

Welcome to our Fabric Studies + a Virtual Field Trip to NYCs Garment District class. In this video I will discuss: What are fabrics, how are they made, what kinds are used for what items, how do you sew with them, and where should you shop for them.

This class is part of a four class course. These classes are one-offs from my larger inclusive fashion business course. But they are not only for folks interested in fashion business as a career. I firmly believe that everyday shoppers and consumers can benefit hugely from these classes. The more information you have, the better decisions you can make when shopping. Knowledge is power!

Since knowledge is power – I also believe it should be as accessible as possible to as many people as possible. You’ll notice there is not a set price for these classes – but a sliding scale. You choose what you would like to, and are able to, pay. All videos have full captions available.

Description

My background: I am the owner and designer of SmartGlamour – which I launched in 2014. Prior to that, I was a fashion design freelancer – doing alterations, making custom pieces, working as a tailor for a private shopping business, as a seamstress for a skate and surf shop, and teaching sewing and drawing lessons to both children and adults. Before freelance, I worked in corporate fashion design – as an assistant designer, and then associate designer – in the Juniors sector. I graduated from FIT, majoring in fashion design, as part of their presidential scholars program. And I then graduated from Pratt Institute with a degree in Art and Design Education. I have been working in the industry for over 10 years, and have been sewing and making clothing and accessories for 20 years.
