Seam Finishes

If you want to bring your sewing to the next level – learn these three classic seam finishes to better finish the inside of your garments and accessories. No overlock machine needed – use just a standard sewing machine and get rid of any and all fraying inside your projects. In this class, we will go over the french seam, flat fell seam, and seam binding. We will also go over making your own binding.

Supplies for this class:
– pieces of muslin or woven scrap fabrics, 6 rectangles approximately 8-10in by 8-10in, and 2 strips of woven fabric, 2in wide by 10-12in long
– iron set up, ideally with steam option
– thread
– sewing machine
– scissors
– straight pins

Since knowledge is power – I also believe it should be as accessible as possible to as many people as possible. You’ll notice there is not a set price for these classes – but a sliding scale. You choose what you would like to, and are able to, pay. All videos have full captions available.

Description

My background: I am the owner and designer of SmartGlamour – which I launched in 2014. Prior to that, I was a fashion design freelancer – doing alterations, making custom pieces, working as a tailor for a private shopping business, as a seamstress for a skate and surf shop, and teaching sewing and drawing lessons to both children and adults. Before freelance, I worked in corporate fashion design – as an assistant designer, and then associate designer – in the Juniors sector. I graduated from FIT, majoring in fashion design, as part of their presidential scholars program. And I then graduated from Pratt Institute with a degree in Art and Design Education. I have been working in the industry for over 10 years, and have been sewing and making clothing and accessories for 20 years.
