Zippers 101

There are many types of zippers and zipper applications in the sewing world – this class goes over the basics. We will learn the difference between a regular zipper and invisible, the parts of zippers, and how to insert them into a standard seam.

Supplies for this class:
– one regular zipper, 7-9in long
– one invisible zipper, 7-9 in long
– 4 woven scrap of fabric, at minimum 5 inches longer than your zipper, by 3-8in wide
– straight pins
– sewing machine
– both regular and zipper feet for the machine
– thread
– scissors

Since knowledge is power – I also believe it should be as accessible as possible to as many people as possible. You’ll notice there is not a set price for these classes – but a sliding scale. You choose what you would like to, and are able to, pay. All videos have full captions available.

Description

My background: I am the owner and designer of SmartGlamour – which I launched in 2014. Prior to that, I was a fashion design freelancer – doing alterations, making custom pieces, working as a tailor for a private shopping business, as a seamstress for a skate and surf shop, and teaching sewing and drawing lessons to both children and adults. Before freelance, I worked in corporate fashion design – as an assistant designer, and then associate designer – in the Juniors sector. I graduated from FIT, majoring in fashion design, as part of their presidential scholars program. And I then graduated from Pratt Institute with a degree in Art and Design Education. I have been working in the industry for over 10 years, and have been sewing and making clothing and accessories for 20 years.
